On the morning of June 21, 2016, Heartland's previous incarnation (Legacy Travel Club) successfully demonstrated "proof of concept" with a maiden voyage to Mackinac Island. Legacy contracted a Boeing 737-800 aircraft through Miami Air, performing a popular "day trip" where members toured Mackinac Island for the entire day before returning home to Indianapolis in the evening.
All 168 seats were sold and accounted for in JUST TWO DAYS: successfully demonstrating the popularity of the travel club concept that Heartland is bringing to Indianapolis. Comment cards were provided to all passengers and the camaraderie and excitement for our successful demonstration was extraordinary.
"I'll never forget how the entire plane erupted in applause on takeoff," recalls founder Chris Allen. "And everyone applauded on the return flight too!"
Our air service provider, Miami Air, went above all expectations that perfect day.
"Our first trip with a club. Better than expected. Good job!"
"Everything was wonderful! We even liked the scenic bus trip to Traverse City! You went above and beyond to make everything go well and it did! Did I mention that Starbucks and pastries and sandwiches and cookies on the way home?? Well done! Thank you! We look forward to more trips. PS., Very Nice Plane!"
"Fantastic!! Had a wonderful time. Thank you, thank you. A class act. Up from the ashes rises the Phoenix! Looking forward to many trips."
